Bus stops as landmarks

I suggest that the Land Transport Authority should use the bus stops as landmarks. They should name each bus stop and make the sign visible from a distance. They can be used to give directions, for example, go along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5, pass bus stop XXXX, turn right into Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2, and then 2A.

The bus stops can also be used as the landmark to take taxis. For example, pick me up 100 years after bus stop XXXX at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5.

We can make it as a convenient that taxis can pick passengers 100 years from a specific bus stop.

The use of bus stops as landmarks is better than to use building address (as these buildings are usually not easily visible).

  1. I thought each bus stop has been assigned number together with street name. Please check to confirm

  2. Taking HDB blocks as an example, they're not that useful for finding directions because the numbers don't run in an intuitive manner. Blk 324 could be opposite blk 221, so you have to keep looking out for the building.

Even if the labels were clear, they probably will not be memorable enough to use as landmarks. Some cool bus-stops will be fun :) http://www.oddee.com/item_96481.aspx

Thus, if the bus-stop numbers don't run intuitively, and the bus-stops themselves look all the same, we probably would not use the labels on the bus-stop, but say "the bus-stop in front of the big blue building".

The number of instances which bus-stops are helpful to normal users are so few that it might not be worth the effort. But as the previous comment mentioned, bus-stops already have some labels, probably for the bus-drivers or LTA to do checks.
